On June 2nd, a press conference was held in Tokyo to unveil the collaboration dresses created by KIYOKO HATA in partnership with the TV anime【OSHI NO KO】. We are incredibly grateful for the presence of numerous media representatives, which resulted in extensive coverage across various platforms.
The venue showcased panels displaying character visuals alongside the actual dresses designed specifically for this project. During the event, Rie Takahashi, the voice actress for "Ai," and Takeo Otsuka, the voice actor for "Aqua," appeared wearing costumes inspired by their respective characters. This provided a unique opportunity for attendees to engage with the collaboration and experience the 2D world of anime more tangibly.
About 【Oshi no Ko】
“In this entertainment world, lies are a weapon.” This shocking series offers a fresh perspective on the entertainment industry, created by the talented duo of Aka Akasaka and Mengo Yokoyari. It began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump in 2020. The original comic series has sold over 23 million copies worldwide and concluded in December 2024. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2023, followed by a second season from July to October 2024. A third season of the TV anime has also been confirmed, with a planned broadcast in 2026. In addition to comics, anime, films, and merchandise, "Oshi no Ko" has gained immense popularity and has been translated into several languages, steadily expanding its global fanbase.
The Story Behind the Collaboration
In 2024, when KIYOKO HATA made its global debut exhibition in Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week (BBFW), we were deeply moved by the frequent exclamations of "ANIME!" from many locals. We encountered numerous instances where anime naturally bridged language barriers, sparking conversations between us as Japanese creators, and the attendees. This experience profoundly reinforced our understanding of anime's power as a globally celebrated culture from Japan. Inspired by this, we embraced the profound influence and cultural value of anime, which led to our desire to "deliver new expressions of KIYOKO HATA to the world through an anime collaboration."
Among the many remarkable works, the TV anime【OSHI NO KO】particularly captivated us. The overwhelming stage presence of characters like the star idol "Ai" resonated deeply with the image of a bride shining on the special stage of her wedding day. This connection naturally expanded our vision for the collaboration. "Idols" and "wedding dresses"—both are symbols of aspiration for women from a young age. The exciting idea that the convergence of these two elements could create a new form of "aspiration" is what brought this collaboration to life.
